Synopsis

Amazon.com essential recording
Drawn from favorite selections previously performed at Sunday morning worship service, High and Lifted Up is the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir's first studio album in more than a decade. Akin to the Brooklyn Tabernacle singers' Songs from the Altar, this is an elegantly scored collection that remains firmly focused on the choir's trademark praise and worship bent. However, while it begins with the relatively uncomplicated "Total Praise," High and Lifted Up, unlike Songs, is lyrically complex, including the words of Psalm 150 and "Battle Hymn of the Republic." Skillfully executed multipart harmonies and swelling strains of strings make the title cut, the Celtic-tinged "Father We Adore Thee," and closer "God of All Gods" crowning achievements. --Paige La Grone

CD Reviews

Powerful praise and worship from BTC.
Kerry Lehman | Jackson, Michigan | 11/18/1999
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Recently I had the privilege of singing "We Are United" with 25-30 other guys in my church's men's chorus, and we brought the house down! More importantly, we brought joy to the Lord! What an uplifting song! If for no other reason, this CD is worth the price just to crank up cut #4 and sing along with the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir. So what are you waiting for...put it in your shopping cart!"
Total Praise

(5 out of 5 stars)

"Carol Cymbala and the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir has proved once again that the greatest gospel music comes from voices of men and women who've been touched by God. There is an amazing sense of integrity in this music. These people sing what they believe and give the listeners a chance to experience their faith and spirituality. If Oprah has "Change Your Life T.V." then Brooklyn Tabernacle lays claim to "Change Your Life Music".Carol Cymbala and Oliver Well's title cut "High and Lifted Up" gives the choir its greatest moments in this great album. Listening to "High and Lifted Up" one is refreshed and renewed. Cuts like "Psalm 150, Praise Ye The Lord" and "Blessed Be The Lord" are signature "Brooklyn Tab" songs gaurenteed to please. Richard Smallwood's "Total Praise" is a great opening vehicle for the album and really sets the tone. "High and Lifted Up" is total praise. The best albums are new albums which leave you hungry for more. This is one of those albums, we can only look forward to the future outings of the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir."
A Great Praise and Worship Album

"The Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir always puts out top quality and uplifting songs that bring glory to the Savior, and this album is no different. Every song will uplift and motivate, at least it did me. "Total Praise", though simple in lyrics, is extremely moving and wonderfully arranged, (my favorite on the album), which has an extremely important messange to Christians on the true source of our strength. "My Help" , is another beautiful song ,perfectly arranged, extremely uplifting. A truly professional and uplifting project. I highly recommend this album to all who wish to receive a real blessing in song."
