British Sea Power----Already Classic
Zach B. Jennings | The Great Beyond | 12/23/2005
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I happened upon this CD with absolutely no background info... I just knew they were playing Coachella '05 and I was going so picked up "Decline of British Sea POwer" because A) they were playing and B) the cover of the Cd and the name of the band sounded enticing. Suffice to say, it made an impression. I now have seen them play 3 times (including an intimate Denton, TX venue, have met them twice (they are just geeky coolo--and yes, I mean coolo--it just describes them), listen to this album on vinyl, repeadtedly, and think this is the best album of the last 5-6 years, seriously. Whatever your interest, the album has it... Want melancholy: try "Blackout"... Want catchy, yet not cliched Brit-pop guitar riffs: try "Carrion" or "Remember Me"... Or, if you want to completely go for broke and you want a new-age Pink Floyd meets Mogwai (the band) take: "Lately" is simply amazing. It's 14 minutes of bliss, beginning with delicate verses and building towards a monumental noise mess. I can't say enough about this album. To me, BSP were the highlight of Coachella '05 (ahead of Arcade Fire, NIN, Coldplay (yuck), Bright Eyes, Bauhaus, and Gang of Four)..."
