Renaissance is a fine early flowering of Branford's art with his original quartet. "Royal Garden Blues" is the track's strongest rendering, IMO-lithe, swinging, inventive. Marsalis has always been a strong composer and Renaissance is no exception. This set is definitely worth owning.

Great CD. Classic Branford Marsalis
Jason Shaw | 05/12/2000

"I really enjoy this CD. Branford is one with his horn and this cd really demonstrates it. He explores a variety of sounds and is backed up by an awesome crew including Kenny Kirkland, Tony Williams, Herbie Hancock and Buster Williams. If you like jazz, I definitely recommend this CD. Close your eyes and you'll think you are sitting at the corner table at the back of a narrow little bar listening to these guys get lost in their music."
The full range of the human experience

"If you for one moment in your life, on a rainy day wish to touch on the emotional basis of the human spirit, get this CD and on the best system you can find, play it. Listen and don't say a word. Branford Marsalis will open up the doors, the song of melancholy will be touched and found beautiful and you will be find yourself open to a side of the human spirt that is beauty.

Peacocks, the centerpiece of the album is surrounded by other compositions to complement it. This is an album that will one day be cherished by music fans the world over, much the same as Kind of Blue.

Simply one of the best of his career and one that exemplifies the spirit of music. It's a beautiful work."
