CD Reviews

A solid start.
Daniel J. Wiedecker | San Diego, CA United States | 05/08/2004

"Very interesting music, I am hopeful for a second release from these guys. All in all a very solid release which mixes elements of southern blues rock with the modern day nu-metal "wall of sound." Don't get me wrong, this is NOT nu-metal, but some of the simplistic chord structures are the same. The slower songs are reminescent of Allman Brothers, and the harder straight ahead rockers sound, vocally, like the angry delivery of Godsmack. A few of the syncopated rhythm rockers sound a bit like mid 90's COC. The nice addition, absent in much "modern music," is a little fretboard soloing activity, which you NEVER see in any new metal song. Ask a new metal guitarist to play a progressing lead pattern diatonic solo in the key of E minor and he'd go, "what?" The leads are solid, but not overwhelming, and are a very nice addition. The first half of the album is the best, and though there really is no filler here, the race to the end is a bit downhill. Unless these guys intend to blaze like old Molly Hatchett used to, I don't think they need three guitarists! Good stuff! More!"

"Old School sound. The singers voice is raspy and contains lots of attitude. The band has a metal meets classic southern rock sound. Together, it appears Brand New Sin plan to stick with what works, without trying to pull off a NU metal sound. This is straight up rock for the blue-collar worker. If you like BLS, you won't be dissapointed with BNS."
