CD Reviews

A Darn Good Old Album Remembered !
A Customer's Opinion | U.S. | 10/19/2006
(4 out of 5 stars)

"I was looking over Amazon's CD's of The Box Tops and I just happened to stumble upon one of my old Albums of this group and it is this CD right here. I bought the Album in the late 60s and had it for about 30 years and I do remember a lot about it. I couldn't believe a customer had not left a review on this Disc yet so I will give you a little info on it.....No.....I don't own the CD yet so this little review is strickly on the LP.

When most people remember The Box Tops; they remember, The Letter, Cry Like A Baby, Neon Rainbow, and, Soul Deep, and you will not find them here HOWEVER what you will find is more very good songs by this band and along with, Soul Deep, I think they were some of the band's best. Maybe not Chart wise but they are my personal favorites. Choo Choo Train, She Shot A Hole In My Soul, I Met Her In Church, and, I'm Moving On, were the standout tracks for me. This is a good CD.

I purchased a Disc of the Box Tops from Amazon two to three years ago called, The Best Of The Box Tops; Soul Deep, and I like it but it only has three of my favorites from this Disc and that usually happens when a consumer purchases, Best Of's, instead of studio's that they are already familiar with. Hey.....I'm not aggravated at myself for buying the, Best Of, CD first. I am just glad this studio Album is now on CD. Bottom line is..... Non Stop is a good compilation plus it also has Bonus tracks that aren't on the Album so I can't tell you about them but I still recommend buying this. Very good Band and Alex Chilton has a soulful voice on these songs. Hey.....It's 60s; so you know it's good.

Update: I now own this CD and I thought a followup was necessary so you would get an overall fill for this Disc..... First of all; the sound quality is very good. As for my favorites on this Disc, I can Dig It, Rock Me Baby, and, Yesterday where's My Mind, are still bluesy and funky. Sandman, is still very touching and simply beautiful and like I stated above, I'm Movin On, is definitely one of the highlights on this Disc. Sandman, and, I'm Movin On, are two songs by this band that should have been hits. As for the Bonus Tracks; Choo Choo Train, and, I Met Her In Church, are the single versions and the remaining three; I can take em or leave em.

Final Note: When I owned this Album; I took very good care of it and I did indeed own it for about thirty years but I finally had to give it up in the 90s due to very poor sound quality and it was damaging the needle on my Turntable so yes.....I am very glad to get it back on CD format.....I give this, Non Stop, Disc Four And A Half Stars.
