Synopsis

Album Description
A traditional late-Romantic composer in the heritage of Scriabin and Rachmaninoff, Goltz might have become as famous as these giants of Russian pianism had he not perished at just 28 during the siege of Leningrad. Russian-American pianist Sergei Podobedov unearthed his brilliant solo piano compositions from the 1930s and has recorded them for the first time on this CD. The booklet contains an extensive discussion of the forgotten composer and his work by the Russian musicologist Olga Skorbyashenskaya.

"The following quote from the American Record Guide describes it well.

Goltz speaks with his own voice, and an impressive voice it is... How astonishing that music of this quality should remain unknown for so long... Podobedov's Chopin is beautifully proportioned, rubato is sensitively handled, and the four selections come up fresh and distinguished when compared with the scads of recording available... few will feel cheated if they purchase this, but all will wish there were more from this outstanding pianist. Alan Becker, American Record Guide"
