CD Reviews

ENJOY PLEASANT MUSIC AND A VERY GOOD VOICE
Rucho | Buenos Aires, Argentina | 11/01/2002
(5 out of 5 stars)

"There is much more of Bobby Vinton than his greatest hits (Blue Velvet the best known of them all), this
CD joins two albums from 1972 and 1974, Bobby Vinton's voice sounds at its best and it includes soft ballads for pleasant moments with that unique style that Vinton is able to give.
There are some original songs as well as versions of previously known songs as Sealed With a Kiss (a hit for Brian Hyland in the 60s), The End of The World (a great hit and a landmark for Skeeter Davis in the 60s), Neil Diamond's Song Sung Blue , Some Kind of Wonderful (one of the Goffin/King classic Pop songs), Our Day Will Come, I'm Leaving It Up To You (a hit for Donny and Marie Osmond), Hurt (previously recorded by Timi Yuro, Little Anthony), Seasons in the Sun, Greenfields, among others. All of them are reworked versions with fine intros and arrangements, with a slower tempo which make them sound different from the originals or previous covers. I find Vinton's calm voice and this CD very suitable to enjoy very good music during quiet moments."
Great early 70s soft rock!

"Bobby Vinton is one of the greatest singers and this CD consists of 2 albums he released in '72 and '73.I love that early 70s easy listening pop and Bobby presents that style admirably. He does a lot of covers, and puts his stamp on each one.Haunting and pretty, through and through."
Late Epic Vinton gems

"Collectibles Records has secured the rights to all of Bobby Vintons original Epic recordings and is doing an Excellent job repackaging and re-introducing them to a new generation of fans. This release combines BV's 1972 "Sealed" album with the 1974 "With Love" that was released by Epic in the wake of BV's million selling "Melody of Love" in 1974 on ABC Records. Epic did not have enough original material recorded for a 10 track album, so they threw in "Clinging Vine" from 1966 and "I Love You The Way You Are" actually recorded in '59 and originally released on Diamond Records. These two cuts are totally out of place on this 1974 album and take away from the album altogether. "With Love" is widely resented by Vinton fans since it was a clear attempt to cash in on BV's new popularity by a company that had rejected him after he pretty much made the label. "Sealed" is an Excellent album and features the top twenty title cut that even today is a classic slow dance favorite,as well as a great cover of Neil Diamond's "Song Sung Blue". Another standout is "Some Kind of Wonderful" which clearly should have been a Vinton single. This package shows the immense ability and range BV was capable of in 1972 and 1973 (Most of "With Love" 's new cuts were recorded in '73) and makes it all the more maddening that Epic ended Vintons contract the same year. "Sealed With a Kiss" is a 10 by any measure, "With Love" a 6. Well worth the listen!"
