"I was a jazz enthusiast as a junior in high school 1969 and had already begun playing my horn professionally for older audiences while my peers were getting gigs at high school dances. When I first heard Bobby Bryant on FM playing "Sonny", I called the DJ to ask who it was, and quickly ordered this album.



This is a live recording done at a time when production quality could vary greatly. In this case, the audio quality is OK but multiple recordings of different performances were obviously not done. The result is out-of-tune instruments on some pieces and a couple of sidemen mistakes.



But Bobby was incredible! No screaching trumpet player has ever equaled him for combining pyrotechnics with heartfelt soul. He was referred to as the "Gospel" trumpet player and when you hear him you know exactly why he got that label.



He's just another one of the many examples of incredible artists who were eclipsed by lesser performers who happened to be promoted well."
