Synopsis

There is nothing subtle about Butterfly Kisses & Bedtime Prayers. Those given to sentimentality and open weeping at Hallmark commercials and episodes of Seventh Heaven are in for a treat from Bob Carlisle, along with several guest artists. The title cut, a ballad about Daddy's little girl on her wedding day, is sure to put a knot in your throat and a tear in your eye. The remainder of the album--a blend of modern and traditional lullabies--celebrates the joy and wonder of parenthood through pop-styled versions of "Mozart's Lullaby," "Jesus Loves Me," and "Edelweiss," along with a few Carlisle originals. Vocally, he often sounds moved nearly to tears himself, and while his mellow tones are deeper and more multifaceted, his pull-on-the-heartstrings approach is akin to that of consummate oversinger Michael Bolton. In other words, this is not a recording for everyone. But for those who believe more is more, this is perfect musical accompaniment to the overwhelming pride, love, and gratitude for one's child. --Paige La Grone

CD Reviews

The sweetest songs...
Chris Randall | Indiana, USA | 12/30/1999

"This tape was given to me by a good friend when my 3 month old little girl would not fall asleep in her own crib. I played it the first night she gave it to me and she has slept in her own crib ever since. Not only is it relaxing for baby but for mom and dad as well, we listen to it on the monitor as she falls asleep. There isn't a night though, that we can't get past the song Butterfly kisses without tears in our eyes thinking of the future with her. My other favorite song is "You made me real" about a toy that lives because of the love the little child gives it. It is so sweet and makes you think back to when you were a child with your favorite stuffed animal/best friend. It's such a sweet album I will give it to everyone I know that has a baby in the future!"
Songs of Sleep for Angels

"We purchased this CD for our first newborn daughter when she was 2 weeks old. A day does not go by that we do not listen to it. All of the songs are simply beautiful. The vocals are so soothing. Our daughter loves Edelweiss, Go to Sleep, and Jesus Loves Me (which I have sung to her since she was in the womb). My husband and I love "Before I Knew You Name". It makes me cry everytime. It brings emotions of how much you love your children before they are even born and how each day your love grows more and more."
Not what I expected

"This is overall a great cd, but for one thing... I bought it mainly for the Butterfly Kisses song, but to my great disappointmnent the version on this cd is not the really deep and powerful one we always hear on the radio. It's much lighter and kind of wimmpy, I thought. Defintely not as good as the version I was expecting."
