CD Reviews

Maybe the best pre-war guitar playing of anybody
C. Katz | Peoples Republic Of Massachussettes | 10/22/2008

"Beofre Cahrlie Charlie Christian blew everybody way with what was to become template for modern jazz guitar their were guy like Eddie Land,Karl Kress,Gorge Van Epps,Freddie Green,Eddie Durham.Though Eddie Lang is best known for his work with jazz violinist Joe Venuti these latter duets with Blues/Jazz guitarist may be his best work. This is god's music as profound as it get's.Pure Blues and Swing that is simply sublime. You don't have to be into swing era to really dig it.I recommend this to fans of bop guitar wile working in record store and to person they came back all smiles.I have CD and both original LP's and would never part with them.If you dig this try to find Kansas City 5 recordings of Freddie "Mr.Rhythm" Green and Eddie Durham. And get Yazoo Collection of Eddie Lang.I passed on the Mosaic box because I am not biggest violin fan (these LP are on it though) but this is simply sublime."
Eye-opening

"If you like Jango Reinhart or Anton Karas, you should check this record out. It would seem that Lonnie Johnson invented the style before either of those cats came along.

This is blues- and ragtime-tinged acoustic guitar at its best. Inventive stuff. And there are a lot more dynamics in the recording than I expected considering how early the dates were."
