"Blue Pearl were the UK based dance act comprised of Pink floyd back-up vocalist Durga McBroom and Killing Joke bassist Youth. The duo quickly found success when their debut single "naked in the rain" topped the UK charts. The group released one more single "Can you feel the passion" after their debut album before fading away into the musical abyss.
Their only album contains a good mix of early 90's dance rhythms mixed with British styled soul music. Tracks like "Little brother", "without love" and the hit "naked in the rain" explore the club sounds of early 90s Britain. Durga's delivery on the songs really helps them from becoming generic club tunes.
The group explore musically throughout the album. "Chemical thing" is a interesting and psychadelic soundscape mixed with guiatre riffs and ambient keyboards. The group do a fairly straight forwards cover of Kate Bush's "running up that hill" and go for deep US soul on the track "rollover".
Overall the album is a solid album although it may disappoint some with its musical genre hopping. The dance tracks are solid and the soul music engaging enough to keep most listeners interested. Fans of PInk Floyd might be interested to know that Dave Gilmour plays on 2 tracks."
