CD Reviews

Cheap production, yes.But the renditions are amazing.

(4 out of 5 stars)

"Better than it's price, these performances/renditions are as strong as I've heard for these pieces. The production technology is vintage (hence the budget price). If you want to isolate seperate parts of the orchestra for a detailed listen, this isn't the cd to buy.But if the overall sound is your interest, and you enjoy the heavier older era approach to orchestra, this cd is excellent. But of course, that depends on whether you mind the older era technology that goes with it.For me, I really enjoy its charm. The important factor of 'even-ness' in recording quality, is taken care of.No tracks are fuller/louder than another etc.(which is where many budget cd's fall down). You can hear the soft parts, and your speakers are safe with the loud bits.

The brief piece "La Danza" is sadly absent from this cd.But all tracks that are here, are good choices. There are only a couple of vocal pieces. The rest are overtures.

The outside packaging and booklet are very nice. But the insert-cover for the jewel-case ...looks it's price.

So if you find some of the negatives to be 'important' factors, you may like to drop it another star. But personally, this cd really inspires me on Rossini's work. These are definitely my favourite renditions, as I am a fan of the heavier vintage-age approach to orchestra."
