Synopsis

Amazon.com
A performance of these three early sonatas--the first of Beethoven's to be published with opus number--requires an inner sense of the young composer, his youthful gestures signifying the seminal creative workings that later would grow into monumental masterpieces. John O'Conor understands matters of weight, articulation, tempo, and phrasing so well that these pieces just flow, naturally and beautifully, complemented by exceptional sound. --David Vernier

CD Reviews

Beethoven's first piano sonatas shine through with O'Conor
Micaloneus | the Cosmos | 12/19/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Back in 1990 this was my very first Beethoven purchase,

talk about your beginners luck. I haven't found a

better version. John O'Conor gives each of these early

works of Beethoven their due, never over working them,

and always sensitive to their expressive possibilities.

These are beautiful performances of the Opus 2 trilogy

that hold your attention throughout, and the Telarc sound

quality is just perfect. A will always treasure this disc.
