Synopsis

Album Description
2006 debut album from this UK Pop duo featuring the singles 'Soul Horizon' and 'Don't You Know'. The Beauty Room came about thru continued collaboration with producer Kirk Degiorgio sending vocalist Jinadu sketches of songs with increasingly unusual progressions. Jinadu was in his element and sent them back with catchy melodies, hooks galore and layer upon layer of rich harmonies. Degiorgio and Jinadu then enlisted drummer Chris Whitten (Paul McCartney, Edie Brickell), Grammy winning engineer Peter Henderson (Supertramp), classical pianist Tom O?Grady, guitarist Ian O?Brien and cellist/string arranger Wayne Urquhart. Using a combination of the latest technological advances at Degiorgio?s home-studio and vintage gear such as an original solid-state EMI desk used on Dark Side of the Moon, the aim was for a classic, warm sound with a contemporary twist. The results are a blend of classic Pop (?Holding On? - with its glorious orchestral arrangement by Brazilian legend Deodato), lush '70s Acoustica (?Soul Horizon?, laden with West Coast seventies vocal harmonies), modern angst (?Fortress?) acapella nu-soul (?Those Days?) and the ?wall-of-sound? opus (?The Weight Of the World?). Peacefrog.

(5 out of 5 stars)

"One of the freshest, most interesting and flat-out coolest discs to come down the river in years. I can't believe people aren't tracking this yet, as evidenced by the fact that this is the first review. The Beauty Room successfully melds the styles of a wide range of artists/genres into some absolutely stunning and gorgeous vocal harmonies and rhythms. At times I hear Brian Wilson, Zero 7, Sting, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young and others -- and it somehow blends beautifully with an old school, yet contemporary feel. Thanks to King Britt for turning me on to The Beauty Room by tracking an advance of "Visions of Joy" this summer on KCRW's Chocolate City (Go Garth). If "Visions of Joy" and the others here don't blow you away, you're not alive. This is music with beauty AND brains."
