CD Reviews

Very Interesting ! Now u will learn " About This" Cd !

"Considering Baxter is a very relevant band in the Trip Hop Achieves ! It greatly surprises me how hard it is to find or get info about this cd ! Baxter was once on Madonna's label Maverick in 1998. Which was there last album until 2004's About this ! Which is just now being available to the states in 2005 !There new label is S56 recordings EU ! I read one UK review on this cd, and it was totally misleading ! It stated that this was more of a dance oriented cd ! Which is wrong !This cd only contains two dance songs "Got to Wake up and On my On." Which are hardly considered real dance songs more like "Everything but the Girl' Smooth house.

The rest of the 1st disc is just simply beautiful ! It is definitley trip hop. Beautiful meloncoly arrangments, sycopated beats like Timbaland. And some strings and horn samples ! The difference between this and there 1st lp? The beats do not rely on Drum and Bass backing ! The 1st cd every song had a drum n bass foundation in it. U can tell that they went out of there way to not repeat that on the 1st disc. "Gonna make it there and I'm here" are amazing songs. Kinda like the "I can't see why" on this cd. The 1st cd was fuller production wise and a bit more up beat. Only because of the drum and bass samples in the background. But on "About this' U can still tell it is the same band just more mature. And the sound is a bit more spare but in a good way.

Disc 2, Normally in a two disc set only one disc is relevant. Well this is the 1st time I have ever got a set were one can't do without the other. The title song "About this" which is very necessary and is on disc two, along with two other new songs. "Star and Fall into" which are very interesting and great songs. Disc 2 is a bit more like the old cd . Alot of the earlier versions of the songs are drum n bass oriented. Disc 2, is full of earlier versions of the songs on disc 1 along with 3 new songs. Surprisingly the early versions are just as good as the final versions. It almost feels like u are listing to a whole new cd there is such a difference. There are also a couple of remixes from the older cd. There are no boring dance remixes on disc 2 except for "Got to wake Up". The rest are very interesting remixes the ones that are on there. I am happy I invested the $30 in this cd even though I was a bit skeptical. I heard nothing about it, and there are no listening samples any where on the internet. Nor can u find a review or any info on this cd ? The picture art above is from the earlier version of this cd. The cover art I have is a bit more artistic it's like a collage ! I hope that Baxter gets the recognition they deserve ! In my opinion this is almost a flawless effort. It was worth every bit of $15 a cd ! I hope this helps anyone the was as curious as I was.

"Whats a person to do when Cds of this nature are so expensive? You don't sit and complain , you immediately drop the money because you will not be dissapointed. this CD is incredible from the very first listen and is just as good as their debut. I hunger for this kind of music and finding new music in the genre of this caliber is hard to come by which makes spending the extra $ worth every penny!!!!"
