Excellent, But There is a Technical Problem

(4 out of 5 stars)

"As I was enjoying this SACD I kept feeling that this recording was out-of-balance toward the left side, so I got up from my chair and listened to each speaker and discovered that there was no sound coming from the right rear channel. To make sure the problem was not my system, I double checked my cable connection and they were all correct. I then played several other Arts Music SACDs and they all had sound coming from the right rear channel on my system and sounded just as they should. So the defect is not with my system and must be with this SACD. I then got the idea that maybe the SACD engineers mixed up the LFE channel with the Right Rear channel, so I reveresed those 2 cables coming from my SACD player and now I had sound coming from the right rear channel just as it should and only bass sound coming from my subwoofer. So I put a note in with this SACD to reverse the LFE and the right rear cables before playing this SACD. Now I just have to remember to change them back before playing any other SACDs!!

The surround sound is so important to this SACD because there are trumpets and trombones from all 5 corners of the room and bass coming from the .1(LFE) channel as well. Since the SACD engineers made the mistake of mixing up the LFE and the right rear channels I am taking one star off and only rating this SACD 4 stars. If the engineers had gotten it right, I would have given this SACD 5 stars, because it is really an excellent performance and recording with a really nice reverberation and ambiance to the soundstage. For those audiophiles like me out there, the original recording was made at 24 bits/96kHz sampling frequency and this is a full 5.1 surround recording."
