CD Reviews

Remarkable! She holds nothing back!!

"Having seen Brussell perform live, I was prepared for her moving renditions of well-known and more obscure songs - all of which she sings to the hilt! The arrangements and piano accompaniments are also WONDERFUL - especially THIS NEARLY WAS MINE/ONCE UPON A TIME, which I was surprised to learn was done for her by Ron Abel, who I'm normally not impressed with. Her regular accompanist and orchestrator are both top notch on all the songs. Her performance on I WISH is just delightful, and her ironic understanding of MARRY ME A LITTLE and PATTERNS are cabaret at its best. The simplicity of IF I COULD is convincing in her capable hands, and she does a terrific job on MOVE ON, as well. This is a CD you will treasure!"
She is a heart-felt singer

"I adore Barbara Brussell. I've seen her live many times in L.A. AND New York, and this recording gives you the feeling that you are hearing a live performance as she weaves her spell. She is SO emotionally true and at times she's also adorably funny... this is one you want extra copies of for your friends."
A wonderful story teller, by far one of the best

"I am a Cabaret performer and I know the value of good story telling. In the Cabaret world, the song is the important star and we are the messengers. Barbara's ability to make a song's meaning and intention is uncomparable. When I hear her interpret "Mr. Snow", from Carousel, a song I've never especially loved, I can't believe how alive and real that character becomes through her. It's her natural ability to "be there" in those moments that make any percieved limitations in her voice not matter at all. And, I do not agree that her voice is limited, she goes wherever she wants to on her album and it's always moving. I want to know when the next album will be out."
