At last!

(5 out of 5 stars)

"Andre Previn and the London Symphony Orchestra made complete recordings of the three Tchaikovsky ballets and of Prokofiev's two ballets between 1971 (I think) and 1983 and they were all released on LP as they were finished. The Sleeping Beauty was recorded towards the beginning of the series. All of the recordings have been released at least once at some on CD. I found four of them in a used CD store and grabbed them all (lucky for me as Amazon seems only to have them in MP3 form). The remaster of "The Sleeping Beauty" is nothing short of amazing. Orchestral details that could not be heard before, even on the original LPs are clearly heard here. The balance is perfect with all sections being able to be heard, especially the strings, who tend to get overpowered in recordings. Andre Previn's tempos are appropriate (never too fast or too slow) and he gets fine, warm, articulate playing from the London Symphony Orchestra. My only problem with this release is the cut of the "Pas Berrichon" (Tom Thumb, His Brothers, and the Ogre) from ACT 3. It's one of my favorite numbers and I was disappointed not to have it. But, oh well. This recording is well worth owning and at it's bargain price, can't be beat."
