CD Reviews

An Original Virtuoso
Jack Baker | LeRoy,IL | 03/10/2010
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Brazilian Badi Assad is from the famous musical Assad family, which includes brothers Sergio and Odair Assad. She plays classical guitar fiendishly well, adding dimension to her fancy fretwork by employing mouth percussion and playing the guitar with "drumsticks, pieces of cloth, and even an electric fan, to get different sounds out of it" (Quoted from the liner notes by Steve Sacks). Her impressive guitar chops and unusual techniques combine to create a very unique sound that's very engaging.

The recording was produced by David Chesky and Steve Sacks, and was recorded by Bob Katz at St. Stephen's of Hungary Church in New York City. The audio is crystal clear, like you're sitting right next to the guitarist as she performs. Every nuance is captured beautifully.

Personal favorites from this album are the lovely "When the Fire Burns Low", the intricate "Preludio e Toccatina", and the driving "Fuuoco (Libra Sonatine)", just to name a couple.

This album is currently out of print, so if you can find a copy, I highly recommend you pick it up."
Charmy and virtuous

"This disc of Badi Assad has great musics, specially FUOCO (a movement of the Libra Sonattina) played perfectly. Maybe its it best interpretation. All the other musics are very beautiful not only because of her guitar performance but because of her voice and charm."
