Synopsis

Product Description
Babik s self-titled debut recording was a raw, explosive live performance, of mostly Django Reinhardt classics, that turned a lot of heads in the Gypsy Jazz community. For their second album, American Gypsy, the band has gone a completely different route, spending nearly a year in the recording studio to create a richly layered and polished recording of almost entirely original compositions. They even enlisted Bulgarian-born international accordion champion, Vladimir Mollov,, and Vaudeville-style clarininet virtuoso, Brian Bauer, to really turn up the heat. All the effort was worth it. American Gypsy is a creative, bold and stunning work of art, that rewards multiple listenings. The influences here range from Swing to Flamenco to Klezmer (and just about every thing else in between!), but the result is an amazingly coherent, expansive, and ambitious vision of Gypsy Jazz that is sure to have even more heads, and hearts turning toward Babik.

"American Gypsy has upbeat rythms and passion. The musicianship is extroidinary, doubling fast lines, a real conversation and all working together. This CD is fun and uplifting, it will take you places from back in the 30's to beyond time and space. American Gypsy goes from DJango and beyond, including a few originals. You have to watch these guys perform, check out clips on their website [...]"
