For the B-52's Aficionado: A Collection of Remixes from the
M. Hart | USA | 09/04/2007
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Back in 1982, the band known as "The B-52's" released a short album entitled "Mesopotamia". Though the album only contained six songs, it gained popularity with the song for which the album was named: "Mesopotamia". The songs on the album, which had a distinctly global flavor thanks in part to producer David Byrne, were a departure from the band's previous two albums and maintains a very unique sound as compared with later albums also.

Though over two decades had passed since the original "Mesopotamia" album was released in 1982, the ongoing songs' popularity were demonstrated by the release of a set of new remixes aptly named "Mesopotamia Remixes". With seven tracks, "Mesopotamia Remixes" contains five new remixes of the original "Mesopotamia" song, as well as one remix each of the songs "Loveland" and "Cake". Of the "Mesopotamia" remixes, the "MHC Remix", "No Ears Alternative Remix" and "Danny Krivitz Re-Edit" are the most recognizable by using both the original vocals & recorded music, while the "No Ears Acid Remix" and "Groove Collision Dub" appear to only retain the original vocals mixed with completely new music. Of these latter two, the electronically-pulsating "No Ears Acid Remix" bears the least resemblance to the original song, while the newly synthesized music in the "Groove Collision Dub" is far more familiar. All five are very dance-able. The "Loveland [Manhattan Clique Remix]" is fast, fun and a clear invitation to get onto a dance floor. The "Cake [Majortweaks Remix]" is very energetic with its wonderful blend of harmonies captured from Kate Pierson & Cindy Wilson, as well as well-mixed music.

Overall, I rate the "Mesopotamia Remixes" CD with 5 out of 5 stars and highly recommend it to any B-52's aficionado."
Best Cake Ever!!!

"I enjoyed all of the remixes on this CD, but the one that really stands out is "Cake." It is one of the best dance remixes of a B-52's song I have heard to date. I highly recommend the CD to DJs and to hardcore B-52's fans. You may not want to always listen to it all the way through because of the five remixes of "Mesopotamia," but you can always spin your favorites or just listen to the last three songs-- anything to get another piece of that cake. :-{D}"
