CD Reviews

Long remained my favorite Autechre release, EP or otherwise
Carter Thaxton | Bloomington, IN USA | 05/04/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I've been a big fan since Incanabula, and have remained intensely loyal through Untitled, owning every single thing I can get my hands on. However, this is hands down my favorite AE release.

This is one of their only albums or EPs to slowly alter the music as it flows from beginning to end, at a pace that keeps one immediately focused on the 4/4 repeating track at the fore, but evolves at a background rate just quickly enough to keep it interesting.

Many of their prior releases had just too little evolution throughout a song (even though Tri Repetae++ is probably my second-favorite release), and many of their proceeding releases have a little too much variation, such that the evolution itself becomes part of the foreground, as in Gantz Graf. This one hits the mark in my book.

Krib is a wonderful track, and would make one's whole purchase worthwhile. What a great slice of liquid crystal."
One of their best Ep's
L. Lee | Seattle, Wa | 06/21/2005
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I'd rank this second only to the Garbage Ep in terms of Ae's short lengths. It also provides some fascinating hints of what was to come on their next album. I'll keep this short and just say that this is music that reveals subtleties upon repeated listens, and is intensely emotional from the right perspective.
And if for no other reason check this out for the song Krib, trust me."
A Roller Coaster Ride of GLITCH!
Keltic | San Diego, CA United States | 02/01/2009
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I have tried to figure out my favorite Autechre release to absolutely no avail. They just bring something new to the table with every single album wheter it's an LP or an EP, you know you're getting your moneys worth.

This EP is definetly one of their best. I beleieve it was produced in 1996, but honestly it might as well be a recording from an advanced alien cilvilization two hundred thousand light years away. Thats how ahead of their time Autechre really is... light can't even catch up to their sound waves.

Every song on this EP is phenomenal, it really grows on you. Two years since I first heard "Cichlisuite" and I love it more than ever. It ends like I wish a roller coaster would, with the exhilarating drop at the end instead of the beginning. In my opinion this and "Envane" are Autechre's most ingenious and beautiful EP's... But don't get me wrong, EVERYTHING Autechre touches turns to GOLD. Haha!!

FYI: I believe the title is pronounced; "Sickly-Sweet." Brilliant!!!
