Former "Dallas" star sings light German "Vacation" music!
05/06/1999
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Audrey Landers, who had an ongoing role in "Dallas" during the 80's and presently hosts a childrens tv show with sister Judy, was also a formidable music chart presence in the mid 80's in Germany. This album was one of her most successful, cracking the German Top Ten and yeilding two major hit singles in Europe at the time ("Playa Blanca" and "Manuel Goodbye").It was produced by Jack White, a major German producer responsible for, among other hits, Laura Branigan's "Gloria." For those who have an appreciation for light, romantic German "schlager" music (a sweet, catchy, very distinctively German pop music genre), this album is a classic. Filled with lightly uptempo songs of romance, summer dreams, white beaches, tropical winds and the like, Audrey sings well and with a warmth that is appropriate for this album's "vacation" theme.Although it is unlikely this collection could ever have been a hit in the United States, it is a diverting pleasure that fans of very light Euro-pop might find quite appealing, especially as the summer rolls around. It's a classic album of it's kind. Audrey recorded a few more albums for BMG (including the top twenty "Weites Land" - a collection of country flavored songs, some of which are available on the album "Rose Der Prarie" available at Amazon.com) and in the very early '90s recorded for Warner and Polygram in Europe, each with a slightly harder, more progressive dance sound. Nothing was quite as successful as this album, however and most of these releases are very difficult to find today. Audrey's latest recording venture occurred in 1997 when she joined fellow Schlager singer Bernhard Brink for the successful duet single "Huete Habe Ich An Dich Gedach" on EMI Germany.Although sadly Audrey is less visible today as a singer and entertainer than in her ultra -busy 80's days, perhaps we can someday look forward to a new collection of songs by this talented singer/songwriter. With the current trend of re-packaging and remixing hits of the past, we can also hope BMG will consider re-issuing her many recordings in an updated fashion. Until then, "Wo Der Suedwind Whet" is a German pop-schlager gem that belongs in the collection of every fan of this genre!"
