Blues, Rock, Christian--whatever she is, she's great!

(5 out of 5 stars)

"Ashley Cleveland defies predictabilty--I lived in Nashville (her home) and she was phenomenally popular on the local scene, and this album is a good example why. This album has a real Christian (as opposed to sappy Christian) edge, an edge you'd find more familiar with the delta blues or gospel traditions, yet she is more rooted in rock than anything else. Her voice is incredible, strong and emotive, deep and very real. This album moves from the heavy guitar base of her first album, *Big Town*, and incorporates more keyboard and more finessed singing. My favorites on this album are "Water," which is just gorgeously minimalist, "Henry Doesn't Care," which makes little sense until you realize it is about her infant son, and "Feel Like Falling," which is an unusual piece for her but exhibits some great singing. I personally think this is a better album that her newest, *Lesson of Love*, although that has some some good moments. She has gotten acknowledged by the Dove awards but deserves a much wider audience--so snap this up!"

"This is my favorite CD of Ashley Cleveland's, it has everything. It is blues sung with a gritty, down home, wonderful style with catchy melodies and sincere lyrics. It is optimistic, but not sappy. There are wonderful arrangements, different styles; but the overlaying theme is blues/rock. I agree with the previous reviewer: her voice is very much like Melissa Ethridge's, but these songs are all varied and uplifting. I can't understand why she isn't more popular...she should difinitely be a cross-over artist."

"Besides "You Are There", this is Ashley Clevelands best studio effort. This set has it all: rockers, blues, and ballads. The set kicks off with two bluesy/rockers, "End Of A Long Goodbye", and "Skin Tight". "Feel Like Falling" is a stellar ballad, Greenberg does a fine job on the solo and you can feel the emotion flowing out of him."Henry Doen' Care" is a fun song about her son being innocent to grown up cares and worries. You better have the fire exstinguisher handy for "I'm Not Made That Way". Ashley delivers a gutsy, growling performance while Greenberg lights up the fret board - the whole band sounds very tight here. The remainder of the set is just as good as the songs I mentioned. I have to agree with another reviwer that "Water" is an outstanding song along with "Bus Named Desire".You really need this cd in your library, a very fine effort. And don't delay, rumor has it this will be going out of print soon. Ashleycleveland "Dot" Com for the details."
