Her career started in 1943 and the legend goes that she recorded for more than 1000 movies and sung over 12,000 songs. Asha is one of the rare breed of singers who can sing film music, pop songs and traditional songs in different languages. The Fifties were the starting point of Asha's career and she is regarded as one of the most inspiring and respected singers in Indian music history. She is still recording and performing regularly, having made frequent visits to Australia in the last few years.
