CD Reviews

Most of it is great
James Warner | CHICAGO, IL United States | 05/16/2003
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Just so you know, the Hawkwind music is a direct copy of the first 7 songs from "Space Ritual volume 2". Which itself is great, but I already had it.
The second part of disc one is terrible elevator muzak (no lyrics)from Van der Graaf,at some later point in their history...zero stars for this.
Next is the stuff from the late, great Bob Calvert and Amon Duul 2,
five stars for this great and rare treat.
Lastly...more Van der Graaf..this was previously released as "Die Losung" and is a very good early performance..sounds a little like early Genesis ..4 stars
Well worth getting,if you are a Space Ace like me"
GREAT SELECTION OF COSMIC PSICHEDELIC MUSIC!!!

"This is a very recommendable CD.The first CD starts with very well crafted HAWKWIND's selection, which for reference can be compared to the live recording on Pink Floyd's UMMAGUMMA (i.e., very much cosmic). Then it moves to VAN DER GRAAF GENERATOR, which also has its cosmic nature and adds eclecticism to it.The second CD starts with 8 songs from AMON DÜÜL II, very well selected, in which the vocals and guitars are excellent; this may be a little less cosmic, but, for perspective on how good it is, the sound is similar to Peter Hammill's. The last section of the CD are 7 additional great songs from VAN DER GRAAF GENERATOR, which show the creation of complex layers and profound vocals by Peter Hammill (himself in this case).Overall quality of the recording is excellent; this is key to notice since there is another CD with the same title that has been reported to have not good sound. All in all, this CD delivers what it offers; enjoy it!Fer"
