CD Reviews

Great stuff - but where is Hope Road?
Mark Shapiro | San Jose, CA United States | 06/26/2004
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Anne Clark is the kind of artist that hits 1 out of 3 - 2/3 of her stuff is too sad/boring. 1/3 of her stuff is biting and beholding - this best of catches much of her best work. But where is Hope Road on this Very Best - Hope Road is one of her best works ever, missing on this CD, but there are some hard hitting catchy tunes on this CD. If you've never heard Anne Clark, past Hope road, this is a good intro!"
DARKNESS HAS REACHED ITS END

(5 out of 5 stars)

"If for nothing else Anne Clark made one of the All Time Greats of modern music:Our Darkness. This searing blast of Ambience, which features Virginia Astley and David Harrow, has been remixed many times since and more than anything displays Anne's great voice projection.
She is,of course, not a singer but a POET,beginning her career with Kevin Hewick as part of the Ghosts Of Individuals.Today she's a Cult Artiste, massive in Europe in spite of never having troubled any chart.
Also on this generous 24 tracker are 2 pieces with music by Virginia Astley:Nothing at all and Weiserschmeldt.
Here in the U K,Anne Clark is a total unknown. So are Kevin Hewick and David Harrow, their solitary albums nearly impossible to find.
Anne worked with many others including Vini Reilly of the Durutti Column. She writes of a world in chaos, has her own website and carries on with her life."
