CD Reviews

My kind of Evening
Nikica Gilic | Zagreb, Croatia | 04/10/2009
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Brilliant music! The great Anita is recorded at her peak, in 1954 and 1955, accompanied by very effective and coherent small bands; two quartets (Arnold Ross-p, Barney Kessel-g, Monty Budwig-b, Jackie Mills-dm OR Jimmy Rowles-p, Tal Farlow-g, Leroy Vinnegar-b, Larry Bunker-dm) and a trio (Bud Lavin-p, Monty Budwig-b, John Poole-dm)... She swings madly, croons gently and deconstructs the songs and the entire lady-singing-lush-or-blue-songs situation(check out "The Man I Love", of you will, or the ironic "Anita's Blues").

Anita sounded as she had great fun making these recordings; I know I enjoy listening to them."
