CD Reviews

Dre Dog Does it Again.
Phillip P. Bazan | Whittier, CA | 09/28/2007
(5 out of 5 stars)

"For those who have followed this MC from his early days, Andre Nickatina will always be known as Dre Dog. I believe this is his 12th album since 1993. It's hard to imagine that an MC has released so many albums yet has remained virtually unknown outside of the Bay Area.

Little has changed since his early days. Dre Dog continues to talk about drugs, a fast lifestyle, and the human mind. On this latest album, Dre Dog does the same and provides completely original beats that continue to amaze me. Dre Dog also usually throws in a little musical interlude by his own group, the Fillmoe Coleman Band.

Overall, this is a good album by one of hip-hop's true geniuses. At the current time, hip-hop is saturated by bouncy club anthems that offer nothing new to the genre except for a new song that can be played at a party or in the club. Dre Dog has never been one to make this kind of music. Instead, he offers his listeners complex raps about life and the things that he has seen around him in the Fillmore district of San Francisco. Dre Dog is truly underappreciated as an MC and an artist.

I truly hope he continues making albums and giving us dark, complex rhymes that have been the staple of his career."
