CD Reviews

Perfection

"There's simply one word that describes this album, Inredible! Ana Gabriel's genius surely shows in great amounts on this flawless album, which is aptly titled "Vivencias (life experiences)". She evokes such a reaction in all of the album's tracks , that by the end , you are left in awe. The finest example is "Miedo (fear)" , where she is simply stating her case. "Para comprenderme , te hace falta vida. Tener mil amores y la mitad de mis heridas. Volar alto alto , y care de golpe..(to understand me , theres so much more you have to live through , Have a thousand lovers and only half of my wounds. Fly high , so high and crash land)".Her use of musical styles varies , from club beats ("Solo Fantasia") ,caribbean beats ("No Sabes")and yes , even hard rock ("Tu No Te Imaginas"). Normally , such drastic mixtures would create an unpleasant result , but , it works in the sense that , like any other person , her personalities vary just like the music. "Vivencias" marks Ana Gabriel's first attempt to sing in English , giving her voice to a cover of "Under The Bordwalk" , the only oddity on the album. Ana Gabriel's "experiences" surely are difficult to bear , and yet she expresses them so emotionally , we feel every beat. In my opinion ,this is one of the best spanish albums there is , and if given a chance , will most definitely make it's way to being on your CD player frequently."

Branching out beyond the Mexican border

"Here, the great Mexican-flavored Ana Gabriel branches out with a little Chinese-influence (No Te Hago Falta); Spanish-techno (Solo Fantasia); and English-crossover (Under the Boardwalk). Most of it works well for a very brave, original, and entertaining project."
