CD Reviews

Albert King Live In Canada.
Perry Celestino | Tahmoor, NSW Australia | 08/07/2005
(4 out of 5 stars)

"This CD is a partial reissue of a Charly release in the mid-1990s called "Albert King Live In Canada". It contains about half the set. The price is good but the sound quality is not good. It was obviously bootlegged at the time and was released because after King's death material on him was (and is) pretty scarse!!!

The price of this item is very low and if you are a die hard King fan it's great. The tunes are the usual ones with "Someday Baby" actually a rehash of "Blues At Sunrise" and "Can't You See What You Are Doing To Me". It's long and great. "Trucker's Blues" is of course Matchbox Blues redone, again. The story he uses here is a bit risque for him but very entertaining. The Band he uses is great with horns. Albert always sounded best with horns! The organ/keyboard player, Tony LLorens, is one of the best musicians King ever worked with and their tune "Rainin In California" (a play on "Texas Flood") one of King's very best recordings.

This CD is great if you love Albert. Be mindful that the sound quality is the worst on any Albert King recording ever ( I doubt that if Albert King were alive he would have allowed it to be released) and that the original CD mastered in the UK on Charly Records only was available for about a year in 1995 and was deleted from the catalogue after that (probably due to legal, sound and lack of sales reasons). It came after "Chicago, 1978" which is a far better recording, however, this band is far better. Get this if you are a collector, or love live Blues Music that is home recorded!"
