CD Reviews

Another album from a great
G$ | B-More, MD | 07/17/2009
(4 out of 5 stars)

"AZ drops his 2nd album this month, and 4th album in last 14 months (5th if you count the delayed release of "Final Call"). I have all of his 10 solos's as well as his N4L mixtape, his S.O.S.A ep album and the Firm album he was a part of, and it's clear that rushing out albums has took the quality down, not to say this album isn't good, but he usually has classics or near classic albums. Of the 13 albums I have of his, this is definitely on the lower half, but still worth 4 stars. Siccness is doing what Real Talk Ent. has been doing the last 3 years or so and taking well-known established artist and putting out albums for them (they have also done albums recently for: Mobb Deep, Pastor Troy, The Relativez, C-Bo & Killa Tay, Ras Kass, Keith Murray, Layzie Bone, Styles, and G-Dep & Loon) Short at only 11 songs, 5 are ok, the other 6 are good, with 1 or 2 being real good but no classic material. Guests are a little heavy, on 7 of the 11 songs. Production is average with Batkave doing 6 and Dave Moss doing 5. For fans of AZ I'd check it out, but he has much better work out there.

"Whenever a rapper tries to drop 2 albums in one year, I get very nervous. DMX and Ghostface tried it and IMO dropped 2 albums that sounded exactly alike. When Nas did it, his 2nd album was a disaster.

"Legendary" was a solid album lyrically but the production was lacking. So I feared more bland production on "I Am Legend". But the production on this album jams. The album is entirely produced by Batkave & Dave Moss, and the result is a soulful blend, kinda reminiscent of the Just Blaze produced Roc-a-Fella albums in the early part of the decade.

AZ is (finally) BACK!

Dope: Hustle in My Blood, What it Sounds Like, Get Low, The Reverand, AZ's Behind This, Do Me This Way
