Excellent 80's Gay Disco Album
Ryan A. Rigg | 02/25/2005
(4 out of 5 stars)

"If you like rare 80's club dance anthem's, this CD is for you. This CD brings back many memories of going out to clubs in the late 80's when I was in my early 20's. Many of these gay club anthems are hard to find including: "I Am What I Am" by Gloria Gaynor, "So Many Men, So Little Time" by Miguel Brown, "Who's Leaving Who" by Hazell Dean, a great remake of "Do You Know the Way to San Jose" by Croisette, and "High Energy" by Evelyn Thomas (who came up and sang this song to me at a club in Key West back in the early 90's). And, you can buy this CD with confidence, all of the songs are original recordings by the original artists. So often, these CD's turn out to be new recordings or "sound alike" artists that are put out just to rip you off.

My only wish is that they had included music by Miguel Brown's daughter Sinitta which is almost impossible to find anywhere. Also, the liner notes are pathetic, but what do you expect for $6.00. If it had better liner notes and some of the other club classics I have been searching for, I would have given it 5 stars. If you like 80's dance music, buy and enjoy. A great treasure to find.

FOLLOW UP: Barron Crist above has stated that I am "dead wrong" about these being the original recordings. I can tell you that I am quite satisfied with the CD and the songs are exactly as I remember them. I can tell the difference between a song that has been re-recorded and a song that has been remixed. These may be different mixes, but they have not been re-recorded. He also mentions that he owned the 12 inch vinyl recordings. Well, 12 inch records are often remixed versions of the song, so maybe that is why they sound different to him. The CD does not claim these songs to be the "Original 12 inch vinyl recordins". I personally don't care for 12 inch versions because they tend to drag on too long. Give me 3 to 4 minutes of a song and I am ready to move on to another song, especially dance songs that then to repeat simple lyrics over and over. Back in my club days, the DJ's never played the entire 12 inch version anyway, they would play about 1/2 of it and then mix in another song. I still think this CD is a bargain for $6.00."
