Synopsis

Album Description
Every now and then you come across a new band that stands apart from the rest. A band whose songwriting belies their inexperience, a singer whose range and brilliance at once captivates and enfolds, or an energy that is impossible to ignore. Melbourne's The Temper Trap may just be that band. This foursome have developed a fearsome live reputation ever since they burst onto the local scene at the St Jerome's Laneway Festival in March 2006. The band officially formed almost 18 months ago, but it was a stunning performance at this event that signalled their ?arrival' as serious players. Sandwiched amongst a host of the finest indie acts from around the world, The Temper Trap held their own and then some. Call it a watershed moment if you will. The remainder of the year has seen them sharing stages with acts like The Dears, Dappled Cities Fly, Spank Rock and Wolf & Cub. Their debut EP was produced by Scott Horscroft (The Sleepy Jackson, silverchair, The Presets) and is a brilliant opening statement from a band that we believe are destined to achieve great things. A keen ear for melody, matched by infectious rhythms and symphonic, arresting guitars, the band is further separated from the pack by lead singe Dougie's captivating, unique vocals. Punter comparisons stretch from Radiohead to Sonic Youth to The Mars Volta - suffice to say, these comparisons are both very much around the mark, and a little embarassing for the band themselves. Moreso, it reflects the feeling that this a band that will continue to push the boundaries, make amazing, challenging music and slowly but surely capture loyalists by the truckload.
