CD Reviews

Top UK Goth!
Mr N Forbes-warren | Newport, South Wales, UK | 09/04/1999
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Which is a rare thing these days! This CD is a useful round-up of Rosetta Stone's earlier work in the form of their demo tapes and early single releases and album tracks from 1988-1991. The main influence is quite blatantly the Sisters of Mercy, but they do this in such a tongue-in-cheek way that you can't help but listen(namely: Cimmerian borrows riffs from the SOM's Heartland, Whispers nicks from Walk Away, to name but a few . . . but so what). If you've never heard of this band, who are a Liverpool-based two-piece, then check this out. If you love goth, then this is a must!"
Best Ripoff Band EVER.

"I absolutely adore the early-era Sisters of Mercy sound these guys had, in spades... and now that the Stone has devolved into a much less-interesting electronic sound, I am SO happy that someone put this collection together. Yes, you can hear the Sisters' direct influence on this band so powerfully that you can actually pick out WHICH Rosetta Stone song was based on which Sisters song (my mates & I have made a drinking-game of it). But god bless them for it. Ripoff, homage, call it what you will, these boys made it work. This entire album is fine music for dancing in a cage at your local goth-club. Standout picks: "Hit", "Cimmerian", "Whispers", "Deeper"."
