Hard-edged, but light & fun female fronted industrial at its

"About the Band:

Pzychobitch is a German industrial band fronted by Sina Hubner, whom is also well known for her harder industrial side-project s.i.n.a. and her "trademark" less-than-red (my word for pink) hair. Originally founded in 1999, both of Sina's bands have risen in popularity, in what historically has been a male dominated music genre, making her one of the better known industrial musicians of the 2000s. While Pzychobitch has been described as being electropunk, it is essentially dance club friendly, fast-paced industrial music that is centered around Sina's strong and dynamic English or German vocals.

About the Album:

Released in 2006, Electrolicious is Pzychobitch's third full-length album and my favorite of their releases. The success of Sina's other project, s.i.n.a. seems to have rubbed off a bit on Pzychobitch, as this album has a much harder edge than their previous releases, though with its light and poppy tracks, Electrolicious still differs enough from her s.i.n.a. material that I'd classify this as an entirely different band.

I think Sina has grown a bit more as a musician, in that in addition to offering vocals similar to her previous works, her vocal range has expanded such that for some tracks she reminded me of the more sultry offerings from two other extremely talented female darkwave musicians: Karin from Collide ("Psycho-Pop-Groove") and Daemon of Waiting for God (on "Lotus Eater"). And then her laughing in tracks reminds me of the light-hearted approach used by fellow industrial artist Genevieve Pasquier.

Finally if I had to say what film or TV series that best fits this album, I'd answer Dark Angel. The show's heroine Max had a rare blend of independence, strength, courage, and compassion that are qualities that are echoed in the tracks on this album: hard-edged, but also light and fun. Essentially the album is a well-rounced mix of sounds and ideas, which is refreshing (and also why you should seriously get your hands on this ASAP).

Recommending Tracks:

- Strom aus Fantasie

- Eyes Off

- Psycho-Pop-Groove

- Atem Heart

- Pussy Gang (vs. Electrixx)

- Method of Melee

- Maschinerie

On my first pass through this album, I immediately fell in love with the entire album (which is rare for me - usually I have to listen to an album a few times before really deciding what I like the most). I've listed my favorite tracks above, but any of tracks from the album would be appropriate for a dance club. In some cases, such as "Atem Heart" and "Method of Melee", Sina sung in both English and German. The first and last tracks also featured a sparing use of backing guitars, which was a nice surprise.
