Review of Blood, Death, and Ivory

"I loved Krankhaus, but I didn't enjoy this album at all.

Once again, a female artist embarrasses the whole female species by whining about nothing but how the media makes young girls insecure. Is this woman a social worker or a musician? I can't tell after hearing this.

It seems, in society, young girls have two stereotypes that define females -the hyper-sexy images of Britney, Miley and the others, or the insecure feminist who wants to censor other people's right to express their desires that happen to involve suffering, skinny young girls.

In Krankhaus, Angelspit used to make music about dark (female) desire, now they just complain about their insecurities. I'm a female, and the media doesn't make ME insecure. If you don't like the media, just turn it off!!! Concentrate on your own desires! Consumers have all the power. If people don't buy something, it goes away. No one's forcing them to buy beauty products or mini-skirts or anything.

Obviously Destroyx feels a pressure to be conventionally beautiful, as so many women seem to, and she's expressing that. But honestly, she's giving the media too much power. I have a friend who works in advertising and it's extremely difficult to sell a product, let alone convince people that they need it. The media only uses pictures of "Skinny Little B****s" in their advertising because that's what people like to see, and therefore it's what sells. I personally find these suffering, skinny models attractive, even though that's not who I want to be myself.

Perhaps Destroyx finds these images attractive too, and in seeing the power they have over her, is frustrated she can't have that same power over others too?? Ah! Who knows, it's not my place to tell her to stop attacking the industries who produce the products I buy, and it's also not my place to tell her that freedom is more important than censorship (and yes, despite what she believes, this woman DOES have the freedom to dress and look however she wants). The media is not a monster, it's a servant of consumers.

If you completely disagree with me, that's fine, you'll probably enjoy this album very much and I'm happy for you. If you want to give me "unhelpful" points to take out your anger on me, good for you again. But I just found this album immature and embarrassing to be caught listening to.

"I wasnt a fan of Angelspit's previous work but I thought they had a great look & a few songs here & there that were pretty good so I wasnt expecting much from this release but damn this recording is fantastic from begining to end & just gets better with each listen. The album is nonstop & relentless with its layered crackling hissing beats & the song writing is great also. This is like the best album KMFDM never made. I wish I could give this more stars. If you're a fan of this type of industrial dance type electronic music then this is a must buy."
