CD Reviews

My man Heavymetalninja is right...
Big J Moreno | Naples, FL | 07/31/2006
(1 out of 5 stars)

"Not only is this a complete disgrace to REAL metal there's still something that really bothers me, the fact that people don't realize that EMO and METAL are polar opposites. These guys are almost as bad as HIM (love metal is the biggest joke ever). Emo and metal is like eating lamb and tuna fish (Big Daddy fans anyone?) or a black jewish republican, it just DOES NOT WORK. When will people learn? If you're gonna be emo then be all whiny and emo-ish with the rest of the Hawthorne Heights, Something Corporate pussbags and stay the hell out of metal territory because frankly no one wants to hear your whining. At least the emo people just stay emo and don't try to be anything else. PEACE."
I am so tired of this...
M. Austin | 08/18/2006
(4 out of 5 stars)

"I am so tired of the scene splitting into tiny little pieces and everyone acting like it's game of Risk and telling people/bands to stay out of each other's territory.

For the love of Zombie Jesus, bands like Phoenix Mourning are not ruining metal. Attitudes like some of the other reviewers are. I am tired of the beat downs (on both sides) and the fights at shows. Grow up.

I am also tired of the absolute refusal by many metal fans to listen to or realize musical merit of any band formed after 1995. But that's a whole other issue.

People like different things. I like Phoenix Mourning and I like Between the Buried and Me. SO WHAT? You don't like it? Don't listen to it, it's that simple.

/end rant.

I like this album. It's a solid hardcore/screamo mix. If you're into that. I have a very fine line on how much screamo is too much. Phoenix Mourning straddles the line well. It's not the best band I've ever heard, but it's a enjoyable CD to pop in.

The music itself is right in the genre without sounding *too much* like anything else. The singer can actually SING decently which can be rare in the screamo genre. Listen to the "singer" in From Autumn to Ashes and you'll see what I mean. He can't carry a tune in a sack. If you're a fan of screamo, you will probably love this album. If you're more on the metalcore side, it may be too much."
For the fence straddlers

"Ok, sure this may not be true metal but, I still thought it was good. I'm hard to please with music, either they growl too much or the riffs aren't heavy enough. This was right up my alley. If you like bands like Mudvayne and Mushroomhead, then you'll probably like these guys too."
