CD Reviews

Lester Lanin live at the 1956 Monte Carlo Ball!
William M. Aul | La Jolla, CA United States | 12/31/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This is extraordinary. It is music and culture that would otherwise be lost. Recorded live at the Monte Carlo Ball in 1956 on the occasion of the announcement of the marriage of Grace Kelly to Prince Ranier. The slight audio defects that accompany a live recording on the date are a small price to pay for the ability to be a part of what must have been a great evening."
Great Beat. Can you dance to it?
Seano | Quincy, Massachusetts USA | 01/11/2000
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Lester Lanin's music has a style all it's own. Here again is great percussion and toe-tapping melodies that seem to be everything you would expect from him. I wasn't disappointed at all. Live recordings benefit from the subtle imperfections, and the voices and singing are just that! Reasonably priced. Nice sound. If you already own the Big Band's album this is a fine addition. Beanie not included."
Lester Lanin is at his best on this one!
Joseph M. Enroughty | Richmond, Virginia USA | 12/18/1999

"Lester Lanin has done it again with this live performance from The Monte Carlo Ball in New York City. I have his other album Best Of The Big Bands, and it is not the true Lester Lanin. It's him, but in a studio playing slowed down tempos that are not really what he was famous for. If you've got a turntable, pick up his "Epic" Long Plays: "Lester Lanin Goes To College" and "Dance To The Music Of Lester Lanin". Though I like this CD very much, and am glad it was put out, nothing compares to the original "Epic" Long Playing Record of it."
