CD Reviews

Very very good
E. A Solinas | 03/25/2003
(4 out of 5 stars)

"A promising debut from a massively talented band. If you appreciate stylish guitar rock such as Roxy Music, the Smiths, Adorable, Gene, etc. you will like this. Elefant is a welcome antidote to the current crowd of hackneyed garage-rock wannabes."
An Elefant never forgets
E. A Solinas | MD USA | 05/28/2004
(4 out of 5 stars)

"New York garage-rockers Elefant hints at potential greatness in "Gallery Girl," a promising EP with three solid, sometimes scintillating rock songs. There isn't quite enough here to be satisfying, but it promises great things for their debut, "Sunlight Makes Me Paranoid."A rhythmic beat kicks off the title track, before blossoming into a smooth bass-heavy rocker. "Annie" is a bit softer and lower-key, with some faint string accompaniments to the steady guitar riffs. And "Bokkie" comes full circle with some catchy, slightly repetitive rock, led by a sputtery fuzz-guitar. Elefant comes across as a bit smoother and less rough-around-the-edges than similar bands like The Strokes. But they keep that chaotic garage-rock edge with things like the magnificently anarchic, sputtering riff at the end of "Gallery Girl," speckled with exhilarated whoops and yowls. But giving a different edge to the garage-rock is a handful of softer flourishes -- some fuzz guitar worthy of Neutral Milk Hotel, and the swelling strings of "Annie."Vocalist Diego Garcia adds a little spice with his deep voice; he's far from impassioned-sounding, but he does a nice job with the mournful bits like "Lose yourself... lose yourself!"."Gallery Girl" is an enticing listen for Elefant's debut, and fans of New York garage-rock will probably devour this colorful EP."
Garage Rock makes a come back

"Garage rock at its finest. Punchy guitar lines give a kick ass presentation to this bands 80's vibe. This is definitely the album to buy if you are a fan of The Velvet Underground, The Smiths, Roxy Music or even the Strokes. Very Good."
