CD Reviews

At the Feet of Elvis
Lee Armstrong | Winterville, NC United States | 04/12/2002
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Ed Pettersen has a lot of fun on this CD; and it's contagious. "What A Little Love Can Do" is a hook-laden pop rocker. "The Man I Left Behind" has some firey lead electric guitar. "Listening to Elvis" is a tongue-in-cheek ballad about a guy who's gal was an Elvis fan & shot a guy in a bar for making fun of the King." "So every August 16th I play 'Don't Be Cruel' all night." "DWIOU" is an upbeat rocker about a guy whose defense for intoxicated driving is that he was drunk on love. The judge demands to see his girlfriend! The pace slows for the midtempo "Too Long Gone," "The wounds have healed, but the scars they still remain." The title tune is a Springsteen-like urban rock melody, "I dive into that sea of broken hearts & surf on the waves of fear; I dream I awaken lost & shaken with that voice in my ear." "Deeper Waters" is a soulful midtempo track. "How I Lost You (The Official Record)" is a fiddle tune country weeper. "Run Away" is a plodding rocker about not escaping consequences. The CD concludes with a slightly awkward "Changing Faces." Pettersen references a couple as being black and white to reach for a rhyme rather than having anything to really do with the song idea. All in all, this CD is a LOT of fun. The sound quality is pretty good for an independent recording. This is one is flying low beneath the radar screen for most folks, but well worth checking out."
