Die Trying deserves to make it big!
K. Hellesen | Sacramento, CA | 08/02/2003
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Die Trying is the latest kick [booty] band from the Sacramento area to get signed.
I first heard their song "Never Good Enough" on a local music compliation CD last year and immediately loved it. Now, with their debut album, Die Trying has shown they can write and perform original and great sounding songs.
My take:1. One Day At a Time- Great starting track. Exellent guitar, OK lyrics. Gets you in the mood for Die Trying.2. Runaway- Not that geat of song. Riffs are good as always, but it's not very original.3. Oxygen's Gone- This used to be an exellent song, but it unfortunately got WAY overplayed on the radio. But it's still a good reason for buying the CD.4. Turn Up The Radio- One of my favorites. Starts slow, this is more of an "emotional song" , but it rocks hard with the chorus "Turn the world off, Turn myself on, Turn up the radio..."5. Love And Guns- A plain good song. Nothing really jumps out at you, but it's still cool to listen to. Also displays more than other tracks how interesting and unique Jassen's voice is.6. F*** You- Very much in the style of Papa Roach, but with Die Trying's own fingerprint. A good song, very easy to sing along to.7. Dirty Dirty- A perfectly executed track. The vocals and main melody are just as sensual as the lyrics. I also like the "phone call" placed in the middle of it. Strangely addictive song.8. Conquer The World- Great "epic" song featuring Jacoby from P. Roach (also from the valley!) It's cool to hear both these guys singing about rising from nothing to become sucessful.9. Never Good Enough- Now re-recorded with all the bells and whistles, this song sounds better than ever. One of the best on the album.10. Words That Kill- Another emotional song. Similar to "Oxygen's Gone" but with a slower pace, and the subject of 'splitting up' instead of 'death'.11. Die Trying- It's their signature song! This song rocks in every way. Great guitars, vocals, drums, everything is great. Awesome chorus, it sums up all the energy of the entire CD for one hell of a track.12. So Long- Typical leaving song. Not great but not bad either. My seem boring at first, but you can't count out Die Trying. They manage to finish in style."
Papa roach the sequal...dun dun done!

"I don't care what anyone tells you this band sounds like Papa roach's kid brother that follows them to band practice and wants to play to. However with that said this album doesn't sound half bad. If you don't like papa roach, mostly during the lovehatetragedy album especially jacoby's vocals; keep on clickin' cause this album ain't for you. Heck if you don't believe me your nuts; Jacoby himself is on the album! however with all of the comparisons made to Papa roach there are some big differences. Die trying is not as good as Papa Roach. They don't have the same energy, the same kick or the ability to come up with that song that you can't get out of your head. "oxygen's gone" is as close as they come. But the songs are decent all the same. Think of this album as a work in progress for a Papa Roach project. Lyrically there are some big differences between the two, especially in the tracks "dirty dirty" ( a personal guilty pleasure) and "turn up the radio" sounds like it was written by the Atari's. There are no real standout's on this album, either you like this kind of music or you don't. If you are a fan of Papa Roach or that Southern California Punk Metal sound this is a good pickup especially since it's cheaper then dirt used. If not but you are trying to get into this type of music, well you know who I recommened."
This band makes me wanna get "DIRTY DIRTY"!

"Well, are you sick of all the new rock bands out these days?
Me either. Think everyone sounds the same in rock today?
Me either. I dont care what anyone thinks music is not all the same today. I f you take the time to listin to music you'll see that its all very different way. Take for instince this new band Die Trying, I just bought their new album a couple of days ago and i cant their songs out of my head. They sound like Papa Roach meets Hobastank meets Trapt with a dash of Punk and a pinch of Nu-Metal. And allthough the songs have awsome riffs they also have great lyrics. The singer Jassen is kind of perverted but thats ok cuz it makes the songs better especially the song "DIRTY DIRTY" wich is my favorite song. So if you like Papa Roach and Hoobastank and Trapt, wich are all great bands, then id suggest that you pick up this album. Its worth your money. So go check em out!"
