GENIUS!!!!!!!!!

(5 out of 5 stars)

"?Shapes of Venus? is the Clone Defects second full length album out now on In The Red Records. These guys are outta Detroit. Man, Detroit is putting out a lot of great rock n? roll these days. What do you get when you mix the Stooges, Johnny Thunders, bad clothes and a bottle of glue for sniffin?? Answer: Clone Defects. The record starts with a sample from some science record from the 60?s. It then builds into ?Low Fashion Lovers.? The drums start as a low rumble and a fuzzed out guitar cuts a swath through the song. The song really kicks into a Dead Boys style rocker. I think someone puked on my shoe. ?Still Poor? is my favorite song with a great lead and some wonderful female backing vocals. ?Ain?t No New Buzz? starts off with some finger snaps and segues into a mid-tempo about life on the road in at rock n? roll band. Instead of a guitar solo this song has a breaking beer bottles solo. ?Rabid Animal Detector? is as strange as the title suggests. It starts as a rock little ditty but descends into noise as it?s rhythm disintegrates. Lyrics, forget about ?em. ?Calm You Down? is a cool song with great lyrics and chorus. ?That?s How Strong My Love Is? is a punk rock power ballad courtesy of Otis Redding....?I?d be the weeping willow drowning in my tears. You can go swimming when you?re here? That?s how strong my love is. That?s how strong my love is.? The record ends with a quite instrumental titled ?Dear John.? It has a sad slide guitar playing over an acoustic guitar and organ. The Clone Defects brew a strange mix of rock n? roll noise on ?Shapes of Venus.? It?s unpredictable, intense and melodic all at the same time. It?s a real kick upside your nappy head. Certainly one of the best and most original bands going today."
