Synopsis

Product Description
Weapons was originally released in 1982. The All Music Guide writes As the album cover and the unsubtle lyrics make plain, the weapons in the title track are, as Carole Pope sings, my lips, my breasts, my body. Don't think for an instant, though, that this band is making some cheap sexual innuendoes. Everything is for a dead-serious purpose, in this case to illustrate dysfunctional inter-gender relations. The band is uncharacteristically upbeat about a personal relationship in Lifeline. Nona Hendryx sings on a couple of songs. The album ends with a sarcastic look backwards with a combination No. 9/Day in the Life crescendo that mocks the Paisley Generation. This remstered version of the Weapons contains 2 bonus tracks: On With The Show and the Deca-dance (Mega Mix). The CD sounds remarkably fresh, especially the title track which the times have finally caught up with.

(5 out of 5 stars)

"Most people are probably familiar with Carole Pope's vocals for The L Word soundtrack. But long before that she was a part of the band (duo, really) Rough Trade. A rock band with a flair for theater (musically as well as the way their lyrics were presented), a foot in the dance music of the time, the gorgeous vocals of Ms. Pope, and a fondness for exploring the sexual nature of human creatures. A fantastic and under-rated band from Canada (where they won Juno Awards and more). Weapons is just one of their recommended releases. Completely remastered, it is offered in this new edition with improved sound and dynamics. It's been a long wait for this album to come to CD. Hopefully, True North will get around to releasing the last album as well."
