My favorite

"Well, this has to be one of my favorite album by clan of xymox. Its brilliant and its style is very typical of clan of xymox. The first song is a great start to the album, the melodic and racey parts of Jasmine and Rose setting the scene for the rest of the album and its eletronic and darkwave elements to come. Lyricly I personly believe this to be the best album yet. The second song, Crucified, was actually the first ever clan of xymox song i ever heard, and still remains my favourite. Its bass is brilliant and the eletronic sounds are great on this track. The vocals are also very clear and the whole melody for the song is very original. Many of the songs on creatures strike you as different, and each has its own hightlights. The next song which hit me was the actual single they brought out prior to this album, Consolation. Its beautiful piano work and slow and mellow melody is great for that slow feel. Another track which i really liked was Creature, its beautiful lyrics and mellow tune is great to relax to. The imagry the lyrics for this track also create a great atmosphere for this album, the classic gothic tune.Falling down, track 9 is also a great track, i really thought the guitar work was very well done and the almost mythical sounds in the background are great. All in all i think its a great album, and next to Notes from the underground (another great clan of xymox album) this has to be a must buy for a dedicated fan or a fan of great gothic tunes and mellow melodys."

Varied Darkwave Album -- Nice Vocals and Guitars

"About the Band:

Founded in 1983, the Dutch band is considered something of a staple in the gothic / darkwave music community owing back to their successful 1986 album Medusa (also worth checking out). Though there have been some changes in the bands line-up since the 1980s, front-man, vocalist, and guitarist Ronny Moorings has remained with the band through its history.

About the Album:

Older Clan of Xymox albums such as Medusa had a fairly consistent sound from track to track, and while Creatures offers excellent vocals supported by sobering and dark guitars I felt that a number of the tracks, notably Crucified, Taste of Medicine, Waterfront, Falling Down, and Doubts, sounded fairly different from what I've grown to expect from Xymox. As a result of the variability in the tracks on this album, I've found that I don't like listening to the album from start to finish as much as I do with older Xymox albums. However, I feel that this same variability means that I can listen to individual tracks from this album in accordance with my different moods more often.

Recommended Tracks:

- Creature

- Jasmine and Rose

- Taste of Medicine

- Waterfront

- Consolation

- Without a Name

The title track Creature is easily my favorite track on the album. Crucified and Taste of Medicine both sounded a bit more like the types of tracks I've come to expect from Peter Murphy (Bauhaus). Similarly, Waterfront is characterized by the hypnotic and acidic guitar work that was a stable of classic albums like Disintegration by the Cure.
