CD Reviews

Not quite right
Alfredo González | San José, Costa Rica | 12/18/2001
(2 out of 5 stars)

"If you listen carefully to this cd you shall find out that this is not a real concert recording. Original recordings from Chavela's previous albums have been put together on this cd, adding audience sounds in order to make the impression of a concert. If you disagree with my point of view you should: first, listen carefully to the public's sounds and second try to find a date for the concert for which, supposely, this recording has been made.
Nevertheless, Chavela's voice remains the same glorious voice as it has always been."
The Classic Chabela with the classic rancheras

"Chabela's strong, powerful, heartfelt interpretations of the classic rancheras are indeed, very moving . This is a "must have" recording for those who appreciate the beautiful voice of this extraordinary singer."
Chavela Vargas is unbelievable...
Ellis Toussieh Bigio | Mexico City, Mexico | 11/16/2003

"Chavela Vargas is to Mexican song like Edith Piaf is to French songs, or like Amalia Rodrigues is to Portuguese music, or like Nana Mouskouri is to Greek music... that is, she IS Mexican song. She is a living legend. I was fortunate to hear her in concert and I couldn't believe I was really hearing Chavela Vargas in concert. To answer another post, below, Chavela Vargas sang in Bellas Artes in Mexico City a few years ago (I didn't know it and missed it), and she also sang in Carnegie Hall in Sept. 2003, and I heard her in concert in Guanajuato, for the final grand concert of the Festival Cervantino... It was UNBELIEVABLE... Anybody who wants a beautiful record of Chavela Vargas, this one is superb... one of her best... Take it from somebody who knows what he is saying: you will love it. Buy this record."
