Synopsis

Album Description
"Full of literary imagery ... BOAT is a rain-soaked mix of late-sixties art/glam, sort of the Velvets with a Ziggy-era Bowie as lyricist, and Nico playing an accordion." - THREE IMAGINARY GIRLS BOAT began in 2004 as a basement dream of D. Crane when he moved back to Seattle armed with good friends, cheap guitars, a half-broken Wurlitzer, a squeaky drum set, pizza, and diet soda. It has since blossomed into a reality of good friends, better guitars, a half-fixed Wurlitzer, a half-broken theremin, a non-squeaking drum set, a few cheap keyboards, ridiculous amounts of hand claps, calzone, and diet soda. They have completed two short West Coast tours, played live on KEXP, and performed increasingly sweaty shows at various Seattle venues. In local papers, their sound has been compared to indie rock luminaries The Kinks, Pavement, The Modern Lovers, Neutral Milk Hotel, Quasi, and The Shins. Songs That You Might Not Like features seventeen tracks of sweaty, homemade, sloppy pop that will get stuck in your brain and make you feel cooler than you really are.

(4 out of 5 stars)

"Fits right in with the current indie/internet blogosphucker evolution swarming around pitchfork and the like but who cares cuz its fun to listen to. Think Neutrel Milk Hotel in high school, or what Weezer should've sounded like after Pinkerton. Think Tapes and Tapes with a more quirky voice or Wilco without the boring interludes. The vocals dance with Bravery-esque fake 80's british upper lip curl sometimes but mostly end up goofy instead and it works. The lyrics sometimes feel like inside jokes but you get it anyway. Nice little xylophones, whistles, and synths prance around the solid drum grooves and Neil Young guitars. Makes me wanna see them live. Buy this."

"I heard "Lanterns & Laughing Ladies" on a local college indie station and immediately started to hunt down this band. Try "the bar is too low to fail", you'll want it to last longer..The rest of the cd doesn't disappoint either..."
