My favourite Inventions and Sinfonia's

"Koroliov is probably the best pianist no one has heard of(at least in Bach) I consider this, his Goldberg variations, and his art of fugue to be reference versions for said works. His Goldberg espiecally has received much acclaim and deservedly so, but I feel that this disc is just as strong in interpretation and realization. Koroliov's Bach is remniscient of Glenn Gould's in a way, yet more earthbound and Koroliov easily outperforms Gould in this work(I find Goulds to be one of the worst inventions and sinfonia's I have heard and anyone who plays piano and can read music just follow and long and see how many liberties he takes with the score). Of course in Goldberg, gould has almost no peers(though I consider Koroliov to be his equal in many of the pieces) but with this work(Koroliov reigns supreme even above the likes of Schiff and Tureck.

If you love Bach on the piano, dont hesitate to get any album you can by Koroliov. He has recorded the Italian Concerto(which is superb), the Art of Fugue(the reference version for keyboard), Goldberg(finest post-Gould version), Invents and Sinfonias(best version period\reference status). He has also recorded Mozart and Haydn, both of which are excellent yet not up to the standards set here."
