CD Reviews

Delightful
Alejandra Vernon | Long Beach, California | 12/28/2000

"With flawless technique and artistry, Antonio Bribiesca gives us over an hour and a half of music that's a great accompaniment to any activity, whether it's dining, studying, working, or just hanging out and listening. It's perfect backgroung music without ever lapsing into being "elevator music". This is a superb, though unobtrusve CD. It's one I'd be playing constantly if I owned a restaurant, gallery, or any kind of store, and I highly recommend it to anyone that does. Most of the selections are similar in mood, so it's continually relaxing, and even the more lively numbers, like "Las Gaviotas" aren't disruptive of that peaceful quality. These traditional Mexican melodies are glorious, so simple and beautiful as played by this master guitarist. The standout performances for me are the ever popular "Cucurrucucu Paloma" on Disc # 1, and "La Malagueña" on Disc # 2.The jewel case has one of those "lift from the center" flaps that holds both CDs and that I normally dislike, but for this much quality at a good price, I'm not complaining ! There is no information on this wonderful artist in the insert, but it does have a song/composer/time list."
Master of the Mexican Guitar

"Antonio Bribiesca is the master of the Mexican Guitar. No one can represent the cultural fabric of Mexico as it is represented with Bribiesca's guitar. It is a mixture of classical Mexican guitar songs and ballads,in a classical guitar technique. This is the Chet Atkins of Mexico. Bribiesca's rendition of many revolutionary songs, as well as traditional music can only be described as the highest level of guitar work. This is a master at work."
GREAT buy.

"I really like this CD. The guitarist is very talented and the music brings back memories of Mexico to me. A soothing, happy selection. Features Antonio Bribiesca's finest."
