On the Paperback Swap site, there is a great feature whereby you can specify that you will not accept books that have water damage, or come from a smoking home, etc.  I like being able to put some guard rails up.

And I also wish that on this site there was a similar feature where I could specify that I do not want a BMG music club pressing, for example.  Does anyone know of a way to make this a stipulation?   Or could the site build this in?

**I'm not looking to get into the debate here as to whether the music club CD pressings are really inferior or not.  In my many years of experience, and my consults with audio engineers who tested them, IMO they are inferior soundwise.   I've gotten a few mailed to me from here or from Ebay and I just chose to avoid them if possible.  Right now I have to DM the person and ask before (hopefully before) they send anything out.

MrD - the problem with this is there is no system in place (like in the book club) that allows the sender to cancel the transaction without dinging their account.  If they have a bunch of BMG CD's listed this could soon get them into trouble with a bunch of cancellations.

It would be more courteous of you to do the cancellation.  Yes, you will lose your place in line.  You can add the CD back to your wishlist and hopefully the top wisher accepts.  If you're the only wisher, you can't force someone to leave a postable CD off their tower.  That's not fair either.

A side note - water damage makes a book unpostable.  No one should have to accept these.

And water-damaged artwork should not be acceptable either. wink

Mark - while I agree water damaged artwork should not have to be accepted, that poses a problem on this website.  Most books from SWAPABOOK are wrapped in plastic of some kind.  That way the book is protected from weather elements during shipping.

Wrapping CD's on this site already seems to be a challenge for some people.

To clarify, I don't think water-damage is ocurring during shipping. In fact, I can't recall receiveing an envelope or mailing that had any kind of water damage. The artowrk is already damaged prior to shipping.

Re: water damage.  I don't think it occurs much during the shipment of books either,  but as proof you sent a non-water damaged item you wrap it in plastic.

I do recall one package looked like it got run over by a truck.  Bubble mailer with tread marks...............

I have no problems as the receiver, cancelling the transaction if I find out it is a BMG pressing. However, what I am saying is that there seems to be no other way for me to find that out unless I send a DM to the sender - and hope they answer before they send/sent out the CD(s) in question.  That has not always worked out.
